TOUCH-TIGHT DEFENSIVE MARKING

Infographic showing soccer drill for defenders practicing touch-tight defensive marking, with steps and instructions for positioning, closing the attacker, and team communication.

Many attackers are most dangerous when allowed to receive the ball, turn, and face goal.

This practice is designed to train defenders to stay touch-tight, deny space, and delay or disrupt attacking play through correct positioning, body use, and decision-making.

By isolating the defender–attacker duel and repeating it under controlled conditions, the drill reinforces patience, balance, and timing — helping defenders learn when to engage, when to contain, and when to win the ball.

Used regularly, it develops defenders who are harder to beat, more difficult to play against, and more reliable in high-risk areas of the pitch.

Suitable for defenders of all ages and easily adapted by adjusting space, time limits, or scoring conditions.
